I’m flying home from Miami today and I want to share an experience with you. It’s truly been an unexpected lesson involving gratitude.
I’ve never really had major problems while traveling, honestly. However, preparing for this trip has been kind of tricky, and my flight was changed several times.
As a result, my return flight was booked out of a different airport than the one I flew into. To change it, I would have had to pay $450. To which I (basically) said no thanks to. 🙅♀️
Ironically when I showed up at the airport this morning, the agent brought it to my attention I was at the wrong airport.
Ugh, oh no.
In almost the same instant I felt a brief wave of panic and then I felt a surge of peace. I remembered the wise words of my coach, @unstuckologist, “w𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧.”
I reminded myself of this and as soon as I did, I felt 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦. It was this moment of clarity that life is happening 𝐅𝐎𝐑 me, not 𝘵𝘰 me. I could have panicked, complained, or been frustrated but instead I saw it as a blessing.
A divine moment of gratitude is the best way I can explain it.
I’m telling this story because sometimes things don’t work out the way we think they should.
When disappointments and frustrations come, maybe there’s a reason for it. We can dwell on the “should” or anger 𝐨𝐫 we can say, “Hey, this happened. And because that happened, it is real and that’s how it was supposed to be.”
𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮.
My end result was the same (I made it home 🙌🏽), but the change in perspective impacted my outlook on the entire day. Gratitude always wins. 💫
