Let’s chat bad habits!
I recently recorded an Instagram Reel about bad habits I want to make an effort to break. And while it may possibly be the weirdest dance you’ll see on Instagram today, because truthfully I was just jamming to the song 🤣, I thought it may help someone else, too!
Setting goals and examining my habits to ensure I am always striving to be the best version of myself that I can be, is super important to me. When I was a youth, I remember learning about how Benjamin Franklin would work on his goals. I was maybe 14 or so. I’ve always been goal-oriented and driven by personal development, so this made an impression.
Anyway, Franklin created these “13 Necessary Virtues” and he would work on each virtue or goal for one week. It was his hyper focus – and once it was mastered, he would move on to the next. There was some variation, but for 13 weeks and he would cycle through each “value” or virtue. Keeping notes on a card to keep him in check.
The way I remember learning it is that if he messed up, or failed in one aspect, he would start over. He wouldn’t move on until he had ‘mastered’ that virtue. He attributed much of his success to these 13 virtues and his system for them. While I’m guessing he was probably very intense, I’ve always been moved by that system and I’ve tried it throughout my life (the longest I made it was maybe 3 weeks!) but this year, I’m recommitting myself!
Not to seek “moral perfection” or anything like that but to become a better version of myself.
Check out this video, where I outline some bad habits that are worth breaking! I think it’s important to recognize our own toxic behaviors, don’t you?. I’m going to focus specifically on one a week. You’re welcome to do it with me! Do you have a bad habit you’d like to break?! I want to hear it if so!
PS Did you know this about Ben Franklin?!
