Preparing for the arrival of a new family member is an exciting and heartwarming experience. Designing and styling the nursery is one of the most cherished aspects of this preparation for us so far. Designing a Dreamy Nursery involves a lot of planning and envisioning, but it will all be worth it for our little one. In this blog, Our Dream Nursery: The Styling Plan, I will take you through and share the items we hand-picked to create a nursery filled with love, creativity, and practicality.
The Overall Design:
The most significant component going into Our Dream Nursery: The Styling Plan is that we don’t know the gender of our baby yet, so we want the nursery to be gender-neutral. Once the baby is born, we’ll likely add subtle hints of blue or pink/mauve, depending… we are so excited!!
The first and most important step in designing our nursery was selecting the theme and aesthetic to resonate with us and provide a soothing environment for our baby. With that in mind and much consideration, we landed on a neutral and traditional theme featuring whimsical and coastal design elements. Lately, I have just been loving nurseries that are traditional, with a bit of a coastal feel.
Here are some inspo pictures that I have become OBSESSED with. This is the nursery vibe I am shooting for and is by Kathy Kuo Designs. It’s got light and calming colors, which is my preference for a nursery in general, as it helps create a soothing and comforting environment for our baby, and let me be honest, me too!! This theme and aesthetic will give a timeless feel and look, allowing us to switch things up with simple adjustments or additions. Now that you have a grasp on our design plan, I want to spotlight and share a couple of my favorite elements, products, and ideas for Our Dream Nursery!
The PRIME Details:
Wainscotting or board and batten?
I love the look of both, and, without a doubt, will have this design element incorporated into the nursery. I do feel like wainscotting might be a little more feminine, whereas board and batten is bolder and a little more modern and masculine. Therefore, I will keep that in mind, but you can’t go wrong. I found on the website diydarlin.co some board and batten accent walls for a nursery that I LOVE. There are links and images, so I would check them out if I were you. 😉
Dresser & Crib:
I’d love something that can grow with the room and the baby for the main furniture in the nursery, the dresser, and the crib. Some of the products I’ve fallen in love with that I want to incorporate are the Bodie Natural Oak Wood Kids Dresser and our Jenny Lind Crib that we used with our boys; it’s just such a staple piece. However, we also love this Delta Children Jordan Crib. That dresser is on backorder, but I feel like it’s a classic, timeless piece that will grow with a little one and can also be used in a big kid’s room, so I had to share.
Chair:
With the experience of two babies, I have learned that having a quality and comfortable chair is non-negotiable. As you will spend numerous hours, days, and nights in it, its importance cannot be overstated. I have encountered this Babyletto Kiwi Glider Recliner, which has many reviews. I especially like how it has a USB port to charge your phone, as I’ll spend lots of time here! It comes in 5 beautiful colors, and we are leaning toward the “Performance Cream” shade.
To Paint or To Wallpaper…
I love Wallpaper! The idea of having an accent wall by mixing some wallpaper + board, and batten to get a little bit of both worlds is my ideal scenario and design. The Wallpaper in the inspo picture at the beginning of the blog is what I am thinking. It’s so classic and neutral, and I simply love the look. It is from @halfway_wholeistic’s nursery! (the only link I can find is on LTK, but here it is! https://ltk.app.link/BHAdQe8rfDb). With that inspiration and some help with the design from Irina at Mint and Pine, I fell in love with this gingham Magnolia Home Common Thread Wallpaper. It has that bit of a nautical yet classical touch, bringing in our aesthetic and theme.
With ALL that in mind and put together, here is the design layout we plan for our dream nursery!!!
I could talk about Our Dream Nursery: The Styling Plan forever; ask my husband and friends, but everything expressed has been the fundamental and essential components. I wish I could just share it all, BUT if you want more, definitely go check out my board Home :: Nursery, where I have a bunch of recent pins with sources/links and images of other nurseries I like! All in all, designing and styling our nursery has been an incredibly fulfilling experience filled with love and creativity. As we prepare to welcome our little one into this world, we look forward to watching them grow, learn, connect, and experience life in this space. We can’t wait to share this special space with our little one and create lasting memories.
