Okay, let’s talk working from home, and virtual meetings. In 2020, this is now the norm! I don’t know about you, but I do zoom calls ALL. THE. TIME. The thing is, when we are showing up on a screen, we are FLAT. Our face has no dimension! Today I want to teach you how to enhance your natural dimension and features with a few key makeup tips specifically for live video.
And, I’m going to teach you how to do it quickly and simply.
The makeup brand I’m using I love because it’s affordable, easy, and super fast – and it looks like skin. Everything you need is in the palm of your hand. If you’d like to be color matched to the makeup I’m about to use, you can head here and I’ll get you taken care of.
Let’s dive into these helpful makeup tips for appearing on video.
First things first = we want to start with a clean base. This is our foundation, I’m going to call this our highlight, though. Because we want to highlight our face. This is going to stand out on your video and give you a youthful appearance.
Second – we are now very flat because our skin tone is even, all one color. We’re going apply some ‘contour’ color. I know this can be intimidating, but when I color match you I’ll be sure to match you to a color that will be flattering on your skin tone. We want your makeup to blend in and look like skin. We will take this along the cheekbones, and down the nose. Outline your face with it! This will bring back in the dimension.
Next up: blush.
Blush really is so awesome – it makes our eyes pop and actually helps us look younger. You’ll apply this to the apples of your cheeks! And, the blush color doubles as a lip color, so you can pop that on really quick. You want to have some color on your lips so you don’t look dead and washed out. This will help give you a finished, cohesive look.
From there, you’ll apply your Seint illuminator – this is going to be the cherry on top. The piece that ladies go, “ooh, tell me about your makeup!” It adds just a little bit of subtle glow on the high points of your cheeks, and makes a big impact.
Next is your powder. Now, if you’re oily, I’d recommend applying a little bit of powder! This will help absorb some of the shine on your face. If you were headed out to a family photoshoot, you probably wouldn’t need to do this step.
Other Makeup Tips:
-Lighting, lighting, lighting! This is hugely important. If you can be well-light, and in natural light, that’s ideal. If you’re working from your phone or laptop, sit back about 3 feet from a window with open light (just open the shades). This lighting is the most natural and flattering light, and it won’t distort any colors on your video.
If you can’t have natural light, it may be a good idea to invest in a ring light. Unfortunately, the clip-on selfie ring lights on our computer just isn’t strong enough, but the one I rely on makes a big difference! DM me for the link to snag it.
-Next makeup tip: Did you know that you can adjust the settings on your Zoom to enhance your appearance? Call me vain, but I totally do this! When you’re presenting something, maybe to a client, you want to look your best. There’s a feature that allows you to smooth out any fine lines and wrinkles. How awesome is that?
