Yup, I bought a car with my own money. And that feels dang good to say – I know talking about money can be uncomfortable, especially for the working mom for some reason. But, I’m not ashamed to tell you I did this without my husband’s help. In fact, I’m pretty freakin’ proud. 👊🏼💃 #girlpower #momswork
I’ve worked so hard the past few years… And I just wanted a “better life”.
I was sick of the cycle we were living in and wanted to change it, but didn’t know how. Honestly, I kept waiting to be dealt a different hand of cards. In 2014, I put this car on my vision board. At the time, I thought I needed to get ‘lucky’ and win the lottery or have Peter land some fancy, well-paying job to get it.
I had no idea that I could somehow earn and pay for it MYSELF. Yup, as a working mom. The thought that this was a possibility for someone like me… being home to raise my babies while earning a legitimate income online never seemed like a tangible reality. In 2017, I decided to trade those cards in and get new ones.
The narrative that women have to choose between motherhood and fulfilling their dreams is a lie.
Don’t believe it. I never want my little boys to think that they were the reason I couldn’t live my dreams. They’re not an excuse. I want them to know that they are 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯 I can! They are part of my very REASON to live this one beautiful life as best I can. Working moms, can I get an amen??
I love that I am teaching them to take advantage of opportunities and search for solutions. That life doesn’t have to happen 𝘵𝘰 them, it can happen 𝘧𝘰𝘳 them. That they can make lemonade out of lemons.
It’s that determination, grit, and hard work that prepared me for this moment. So, when we found out that our car was toast, we weren’t paralyzed by the situation. We considered our options, and made some freaking good, fresh-squeezed lemonade. 🍋
Here’s to making those dream boards a reality. To embracing opportunity rather than running from it.
To taking control of our lives. 👊🏼
And here’s to you, for helping me along the way. Every order, referral, class…. I’m so grateful 😭 This is so much more to me than being an ‘influencer makeup artist’ or someone repping a direct sales business, it’s about setting an example for my kids.
