What better way to kickstart your spring than with a thorough home cleaning session? It’s one of those things that might sound boring, but it’s totally worth it in the end! Spring cleaning is a simple and effective way to set your home up for the season ahead, elevating problems that could come about in the future. This can sound like an overwhelming process or task, but with my Home Spring Cleaning: Top 4 Steps + Tips, you can prepare your home and create a fresh environment for a new season of adventure and memories! I broke down my spring cleaning routine into four essential steps filled with tips, must-have products, and ideas to help you tackle your spring cleaning with ease and efficiency!
TIME TO CLEAN !!
Step 1: Clean Out Closets
When it comes to the closet clean-out process, there are two steps: getting rid of the old and establishing organization.
Purge clothes! I like to do an inventory of everyone’s clothing (especially the kids). Typically, I do back-to-school shopping in the fall, but we also do a big spring haul in our house. I will go through each item that’s hanging in the closet. It gets donated if it doesn’t fit or hasn’t been worn in the past 9-12 months. I will toss out our mismatched and missing socks, socks with holes, etc. I make sure each person has the following that fits well:
7 underwear, Socks, Shorts (comfy), Shorts (nice), T-shirts, Sunday Shirts, Light jacket for rain, Pajamas, Sandals (now is a great time to shop for them), Tennis shoes (x2 to rotate), & Sunday shoes
When we do an inventory, if I notice something is missing, it’s easy to grab it on our next run to Target or Old Navy, or I can order it online. I just ordered these shirts for Oliver because we found he needed some new shorts when we did his inventory + they are actually on sale now for $5!
Then, once you have cleared out the clutter, it’s time to tackle that closet and reclaim an order of organization with a few magical finds! Below, I have rounded up my top closet organization, which makes the process a breeze and helps keep it organized for longer. These essentials are game-changers, from slim velvet hangers that maximize space to storage bins and baskets for corralling loose items. I highly recommend trying some out for your spring clean!
Step 2: We change out our filters!
This step can be overlooked or forgotten during spring cleaning but deserves attention, too. Maintaining a healthy and efficient home environment is crucial, especially as we transition into the warmer months. For us, the AC and water system get a swapped-out filter. Then, as I’m swapping out the filters, I also like to remove the vents to vacuum and wipe them clean. A simple addition to the switching of filters, it is a task that will make a difference in creating a fresh, healthy, and comfortable space for spring! Check out some of the products I love to use for this:
Step 3: Swap out batteries in the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Prioritizing doing this twice a year and just staying ahead, rather than waiting for them to go off or randomly trying to remind them to do it, helps so much more than you will think. You never have to worry about your smoke detector having a low battery and starting chirping in the middle of the night, waking you and the little ones who find it harder to get back to bed! It’s not worth it coming from experience, haha. By making this routine step in your spring clean, you are ensuring the safety of your home and setting yourself up for a successful spring.
Step 4: A whole pantry refresh is a must!
Over time, it can become cluttered and disorganized, making it challenging to find what we need and leading to wasted food and money. By taking the time to declutter, clean, and organize the pantry, you create a more efficient and functional space and gain a sense of control and peace of mind. I like to go section by section or shelf by shelf to make sure that we aren’t holding onto any food that’s possibly expired or if there is something that we have not eaten that’s not expired, but I don’t think we will eat then I donate that to a local food pantry or shelter. Then I would like to attempt to organize everything left! I liked to use clear storage bins, stackable shelves to create more space, baskets to sort items, and more. Below are some of my pantry organization staples!
Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be a considerable process to be practical and useful! I hope these Home Spring Cleaning: Top 4 Steps + Tips act as a guide for you to build your own personal spring clean routine. All of these steps, products, and tips will assist you with refreshing, renewing, and reclaiming your space.
