Healthy body talk is so key. Let’s get right to it, shall we? My kids don’t know I had surgery. And I don’t plan to tell them either. Some day when they’re older, if they ask, we can talk about it.
For me, struggling with my weight for decades is a part of my story. Fighting food addiction and body dysmorphia, that’s also a part of my story. And I will share it openly when it’s time.
I don’t want my kids to have the same story. It’s so important to me that they understand the value of having healthy body talk. I would go through all of the hurt and pain I’ve felt in my lifetime all over again if it means I can stop the cycle and protect my kids from it.
How we talk about ourselves + our bodies is 𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓.
Additionally, how we talk about others – their bodies, and their looks is 𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓.
If someone looks different from us, AWESOME! Let’s 𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦 that!
I choose to seek out the beauty not only in myself but with those around me. I’m also making a conscious effort to not belittle myself or others.
I am teaching my boys to do the same, but I would still love ideas!
How are you encouraging your kids to be #bodypositive and to speak kindly to themselves and others? Let me know in a DM!
