I’m so excited to announce that we’re building our future home, and we couldn’t be more excited to share every step of our journey with you! After years of dreaming, planning, and growing as a family, we’re transitioning from our current chapter into a new home that reflects who we are. With construction wrapping up and our move scheduled for this summer, the future has never looked brighter.
A Dream in the Making
Four years ago, we purchased a small, builder-grade home in our dream neighborhood. We worked hard for years to be able to afford a home in a hot and competitive market. I still remember walking through a home under construction and knowing immediately it was the perfect place for us, even though it was more of a stepping stone than a forever home. Nestled in a family friendly area of the vibrant Treasure Valley, our first home gave us a taste of homeownership and a glimpse of what was possible, even as we watched it take shape without personalized finishes.
The Country Experience & a Shift in Perspective
After overcoming challenging moments, including struggles with infertility, our family’s path led us to a beautiful country home on a couple of acres. I had always dreamed of raising my kids surrounded by nature, farms, open spaces, and the gentle hum of rural life. In that idyllic setting, we fell in love with a house that offered privacy and custom-built charm.
But even paradise has its trade-offs. While my husband Peter embraced the peace and quiet, I began to miss the vibrant community we once knew: friendly neighbors, children playing outside, and the joy of shared experiences. Our hearts yearned for the connection and energy that a thriving neighborhood provides.
A Chance Walkthrough That Changed Everything
One evening while out for a drive, we happened to walk through a home that was in the framing stage – just out of curiosity. The layout immediately caught us off guard; it felt so different from what we were used to. But when our son casually said, “I’d move here!” it sparked something in us. That simple moment led to deeper conversations about what we truly wanted in a home, a community and whether it was time for a change.
With that, we started looking – considering everything from fixer-uppers to move-in-ready homes and even new builds. But nothing felt right. When our agent asked if we’d consider building, I quickly dismissed the idea. The thought of waiting, navigating the process, and dealing with an unpredictable market felt overwhelming.
But as doors kept closing on the homes we toured, we felt led to explore the one option I never thought we’d take: building. And in the most unexpected twist, we realized we could build the very same floor plan from that first walkthrough, but this time, tailored to our family’s needs.
Through so much prayer, research, and what felt like a series of “God winks,” we found the exact place we were meant to be: a neighborhood that felt like home before we even lived there. And just like that, what once seemed impossible became the start of our next big adventure.
This isn’t about major renovations (not at first, at least)…. it’s about thoughtful, cosmetic transformations that make every detail count. We’re excited to choose design finishes that turn a builder-grade house into a warm, inviting haven with character and charm. We’re starting with a bank-slate house we will slowly turn into our home. Along the way, I’ll be sharing exactly where we decided to save and where we spent a little more, proving that every decision helps create a home that’s uniquely ours.
What’s Next: A Summer Move
Right now, we’re living in a rental as we oversee the final stages of construction. We’re eagerly anticipating the moment when we can finally say, “Welcome Home.” With our move scheduled for this summer, our journey is just beginning. We can’t wait to document every thoughtful detail from cozy interior styling to the small touches that transform everyday spaces into a haven for our family.
